Memo to Channel 7: Bring back My Restaurant Rules!
Channel 7's new HD channel recently re-ran Series 1 and 2 of this quality show.
Looking back the concept was solid and the casting was great.
Who will ever forget Bella and her under-thumb boyfriend Evan underpaying their staff?!? Gold!
MRR also had a local edge - something seriously lacking from overseas dribble such as Hell's Kitchen.
So what happened to the winners?
Perth's Series 1 winning restaurant Room 19 closed within 12 months. Ash and Amanda discovered the site allocated to them by Channel 7 was due for demolition, and the cost for moving the restaurant was too high. Bugger!
Adelaide's Series 2 winning restaurant The Greedy Goose excelled for a few years but closed in February 2009. John and Justine attributed the closure to the worsening economy and the failure of a separate gourmet burger restaurant they opened in Glenelg.
Hmmm.
Perhaps Adelaide wasn't ready for their small lasagne portions! John notes:
"We didn't have enough people through the door who understood what we were doing."
Series 2 runners up Bella and Evan reopened version 2.0 of Pink Salt in the affluent Double Bay in March 2006, and it still seems to be going strong despite the breakup of their personal relationship.
No word on whether Even continues to wear pink polo tops!
